Beach Weekend

Awwww, Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of summer.  For many people, it's spent away, preferably around the water, and if at all possible, the beach!  Living here in Orange County, Southern California, I'm anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour's drive away from the coast, depending on which beach I wish to be at.  So I thought I'd share a few photos of some of the beaches I've visited, and perhaps you have as well.  This first photo is taken at Santa Barbara, my husband and I were there to see Celtic Women in concert and spend a few days by ourselves a couple summers ago.  I loved the light there, it just seemed more mellow, like it cast a more etheral glow over the ocean.

This next picture was taken in Lake Tahoe, as we were walking back from the lake to the parking lot.  I loved how the old fence in the wooded pasture framed out the distant view of the lake.  You can barely see the people relaxing on the shore by the slab of blue water.

A local favorite is Huntington Beach, well known as 'Surf City'. This is where we head for picnics and sandy fun.  Too bad I don't have the pier in this picture. It will be crowded this weekend for sure.

Hope you enjoyed these few beach pictures.  Maybe you'll have a chance to spend some time at the water's edge yourself, be it beach, lake, quarry hole, or just your backyard kiddie pool. As for myself, I don't think I'll be digging out the cooler this weekend, but I do hope to run over to Seal Beach.  They have a few little antique shops I've been meaning to get to, plus a wonderful garden shop. Every trip to Seal Beach is a pleasure, though, even if you just spend your time walking through the charming residential streets and maybe strolling to the end of the pier.

I miss Seal Beach. I need to come out and visit, then we can go together.

Yes, do come, we'll spend a day there together. Hit the shops, have some lunch, hit the beach, get ice cream. Just like old times.

Thanks for the nice comment on my blog.. Love your water pictures - Santa Barbara, I love that place. Just wish I could afford to live there. But you are right, the light is softer, the days are longer and the times are magical there. (nothing wrong with orange county either!)
